East Asia Program internship
The East Asia Program is hiring an intern to work part-time, starting in March. The intern would continue until at least late June, or at most for six months from the start date. The successful candidate will assist the program’s Southeast Asia research fellow with research and events on Indonesia, Myanmar, and the US role in East Asia. Much of the work will involve collaborative, quick turn research on these subjects. There will also be substantial opportunity for interns to pursue their own research on an area to be determined in coordination with the research fellow, and to publish the results of their research on the Lowy Institute Website.
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated strong English research and writing skills who have a familiarity with the politics of one or more of the countries of Southeast Asia, and with geostrategic issues in the region. Proficiency in Indonesian or Burmese or another Southeast Asian language is valuable but not required.
Start date: Flexible, preferably in late March
Hours: Part-time, Equivalent of two and a half days a week, but these can be organized around a student’s schedule. A small stipend will be paid to cover daily travels and meals.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until 15 February.
